In March 2005, at the same time they released the core rulebook, Black Industries published the Adventure Pack as a Gaming Aid. It was eventually sold out and replaced by the Character Folio in November 2006. Now, is there any major differences between the two? Are you really missing something if you started playing later or should you buy the Character Folio if you bought everything during the first year? These are the questions I intend to answer here.
It was a bit frustrating in the beginning of WRFP 2nd edition; I mean, if you did not have enough time to bring your rulebook to the closest photocopy machine, you were doomed to write everything down on a piece of paper (we have become such a lazy specie). Since they wanted to sell the 50 blank character sheets of the Character Pack they did not obviously give access to a blank pdf character sheet. You had to buy the Character Pack in order (let’s admit it) to photocopy pages to all your players.
Now, the Character Pack is sold out and has been “replaced” by the Character Folio. The basic WFRP character sheet is now available on Black Industries’ website, so why bother buying it? Let’s compare the content of these two gaming aids.
The Character Pack. 50 blank character sheets followed by the most important feature: a name generator for all main races of the main countries. The list in this booklet greatly expends the possibilities in the core rulebook, but an automated name generator can now be found on Black Industries’ website. Apart from the rules and spells summaries, you can find two tables on personal heraldry and a forth telling of doom on another page. Nothing essential that is.
The concept of the Character Folio is totally different. Is it something that each player should have or, let’s admit it, photocopy from the game master. All the pages cover what you should think about your character if you are a real roleplayer (not a ROLL-player).
You have followers, you have insanities. you think something of other characters that you would never admit, you have battle scars, mutations, career plans for the future? Record them all! Even your gruesome death!
Briefly speaking, if you missed the Character Pack, no worries unless you are a true collector and fan. You might buy the Character Folio if you wish, but even then, this gaming aid is not a must.
You think different or feel the same? Please post a comment!
Thanks, for putting in the link to the sheet. I’ve been searchin’ my ass off on the internet, trying to find this sheet, because we indeed, didn’t want to go the the supermarket with the rulebook, which usually has a broken down photocopier.
This makes things a lot easier. Thanks again!
